Five hybrid varieties selected for our orchard

Our plantation plan is built around five ICAR-CPCRI coconut hybrids, chosen for yield performance and suitability to eastern Nepal.

Choosing what to plant is the most consequential decision a new orchard makes — a coconut palm can stay productive for decades. After reviewing the options, our plantation plan is built around five hybrid varieties developed by ICAR-CPCRI: Kalpa Sreshta, Kalpa Jyothi, Kalpa Nakshatra, Chandra Laksha and Kera Sankara.

Each was selected for its yield performance and regional suitability. Published per-tree yields range from 109 to 167 nuts per tree per year, with Kalpa Sreshta the strongest performer of the group.

The plan is to plant 1,500 trees of each variety — 7,500 palms in total across our 60 Bigha in Morang. At maturity, that points to a combined output in the region of 922,500 nuts a year. These are projections: nothing is in the ground yet, and we will share real numbers as the orchard grows.
